[ true to his word, he'll be knocking on Thor's door in the time it takes to come downstairs. He's dressed in layers, wrinkled shirts wrapped up in a faded, slouchy cardigan. It isn't cold, but the pressure from the fabric is enough like a persistent reassurance. It's necessary right now.]
[He gets the door and manages a bit of a smile. He's in-- normal clothes now. A baggy hoodie, sweats. There's nothing particularly god-like about the man who answers the door with dark circles beneath his mismatched eyes, nor the wariness about him as he steps aside to let him in.]
Come, make yourself comfortable. [A pause.] Would you like a drink? I assure you there is nothing odd about it.
[ Thor's state feels like permission. When he offers Fitz the chance to make himself comfortable, he does. Fitz lunges to him, tugging him into a hug as tight as their last, pressing his face fully into the darkness of Thor's broad chest. He knows he won't be judged for it. That makes it all right. ]
Is there beer?
[ he can't imagine Thor not having immaculate taste in beer. Asgardians always do. ]
[When Fitz moves into his arms, it hardly takes him long at all to respond. His arms come up around him, holding on to him for a moment, as reassuring as he can be.]
[Even then, it takes a moment for him to pull himself away and enter fully, all but flopping onto the couch when he arrives. He shrinks into the corner, as if the cushions might swallow him up. That's healthy, isn't it? He hopes it is.]
[He lets Fitz get comfortable as he heads to the kitchenette to grab a couple bottles from the fridge. After that, he looks where he's curled up for a moment before going to sit next to him.
[Close is good. It's body heat. It creates a level of security that's the opposite of hanging helpless and alone. He accepts the bottle without protest, taking a measured swig before replying.]
That's the sort of thing my dad used to say. Thought he'd find all his answers at the end of a bottle.
[ he hasn't spent much time considering it from that angle. He's learned to consider drinking to be a social event, something that helps allay his own awkward stumbling blocks. ]
[ he sips quietly, considering this before attempting to develop it further. Thor seems so unlike himself right now... but is this when he's the most himself? ]
[He's being dour -- he know that. It's the exact opposite of what he wants. So after a moment, he manages a bit of a smile instead, tucking everything else away.]
Ah, that's a simple one. Time with a friend. I won't ask you to speak of what we went through, but-- perhaps a movie. Midgardian entertainment is something I've grown rather fond of.
Jemma and I usually like to sit down in front of documentaries... ways to learn about things outside of our fields of specialties. Science fiction is always interesting, as well. It's a chance to imagine the way the world could be rather than keeping limited to how it is.

Probably sounds quaint to you, given how advanced your culture is.
What sort of documentaries? [It isn't as if Thor is overly picky -- if something offers him a bit of a distraction away from his own thoughts, he will likely take it.]
It is interesting. I enjoy seeing the Midgardian view of things... it is one of the things I found fascinating about Jane.
[He pauses shortly before offering in explanation--] She is my... ex.
[He bites back the urge to insist it was an entirely mutual breakup.]
Oh, just ahout anything. Usually we'll take up the recommendations of friends. They try to choose topics outside the sciences, so Jemma and I won't spend the whole time picking apart inaccuracies. [ He and his girlfriend are incredibly rude when they get to chatting over a movie.
But the news a out Jane has him sitting straighter in surprise. ]
Jane as in Doctor Jane Foster? Her work is legendary. I hadn't known you've gone separate ways, though. I'm sorry to hear it.
You feel strongly about your sciences... [He looks more amused than not. The passion is interesting, even if it tends to be of a different sort than Asgardian.
And there's a part of Thor that seems proud when Fitz seems to recognize the name.]
That Jane. [She was impressive in ways that amazed him still. He shakes his head.] It was... mutual. We belong to two different worlds, both of which keep us rather... busy.
Well that's because science is sacred. [ it's more important than any paltry religion. And it's also the most engaged he's been since his arrival. He's fully parked up, something bright in his eyes. Science is his favorite thing for always and forever. ]
As long as it was amicable, I suppose that's not the worst thing. Two of my best mates can't decide if they want to be married or not. Always kind of a minefield to catch up with them if I haven't seen them in a while.
Are you able to work on any projects in this place? [He doesn't think that Jane would be satisfied in Hell -- not only for the torture, but how confined it is, how little they seem to be able to get their hands on that has true value.
Not that he has any desire to see her in this damnable place.
I'd go mad if I couldn't. [In that, he's certain. He doesn't take to idleness well. It leaves too much room alone with darker thinking.] Resources are limited here, but that's more of a matter of building what I need out of what we have. I've had to tear through quite a lot of scrap to build an adequate toolkit, but I think progress might be forthcoming.
[Though it leaves him wondering quite a lot about what Tony Stark might be working with out in his dark corners. He doesn't seem to be suffering from quite the same scarcity.]
